Help Animals
The development of a new website
Dear friends,
This is my personal appeal to all members of the Association "Help Animals", all citizens, companies and other entities that are in any way involved in the work of the Association that I founded and managed for the last 13 years. Please have patience and read this letter because it is very important for the survival of the Association and its animals.
Ms Nada Gajer Kljakovic and I have bought a lot of 47.60 acres in June 2000 and founded our dogs shelter "Riska".
Until 2005, there were dogs and cats in the same shelter. In 2005, there was a serious infection among cats, and that was the reason to separate cats from dogs and I moved cats into my home and adapted the space to their needs. In that way, the shelter for cats "Jessica" was founded.
I am almost 64 and I have the experience of 13 years long very difficult and serious fight in the field of animal welfare with the Republic of Serbia and also of the struggle for survival of our shelters.
In the meantime, we have found reliable and valid ways for the best possible rehoming of dogs and you can read about it on "Help Animals" web site. Unfortunately, the number of rehomed cats is very small and their number in the shelter has increased dramatically since 2000. When the shelter was founded in 2000, there were 430 dogs and 16 cats. Today, there are 146 dogs and 120 cats, plus 32 cats that live in two other mini shelters that Help Animals provides with food. We have 152 cats all together.
Thanks to successful rehoming of dogs, their number is drastically reduced compared to 2000. I have to say that the measures prescribed by the Animal Welfare Act taken by the City of Belgrade were another reason why the number of dogs is reduced. Unfortunately, those measures apply only to dogs, but not to cats. The City of Belgrade has opened five shelters for dogs and not even one shelter for cats.
Because of all those reasons that I mentioned, the Association "Help Animals" has decided to legally separate the dog and the cat shelter, so that the dog shelter was legally given to the Association "Hope for Animals-Riska" Belgrade.
The reason for this is that I am not able, as a legal representative of "Help Animals", either physically or emotionally to do so many things on my own, from taking care of all cats in the cat shelter, to finding funding for the shelter for dogs and for the shelter for cats, bookkeeping and updating "Help Animals" web-site and fighting with the Government of the Republic of Serbia to resolve problems in accordance with the laws enacted, and many other things...
Association "Help Animals" did not leave 146 dogs without anything. Association "Help Animals" and I personally have provided further existence of dogs:
1) Deed of gift signed by the legal representative of the Association "Help Animals" – Ms Zlata Korjenic, that is me, gave her half of the cadastral parcel No. 4133 / 2 inscribed in ZKUL 946 Borca, a lot of 47.60 acres with a house of 49m² and two outbuildings to the legal representative of the Association "Hope for Animals-Riska".
2) Association "Help Animals" handed over 100% of Zepter International donations and all donations from abroad to the Association "Hope for Animals-Riska".
At the time when the deed of gift was signed there were 30 cats in the dog shelter "Riska" (due to lack of space at the cat shelter "Jessica"; a list of cats is an integral part of the deed of gift), the Association "Help Animals" will be fully responsible for them and it will take them over successively.
Association "Help Animals" will continue with taking care of the shelter for cats "Jessica", fight for the rights of cats, horses and other animals in Belgrade whose lives are threatened and with our well known struggle for final solution of the problem of homeless dogs and cats at the national level (No-Kill Sterilization Strategy) that we began several years ago.
I, as the legal representative of the Association "Help Animals" ask members and citizens who help our animals to continue helping us under the new circumstances because your donations are now the only source of income that "Help Animals" can use to help cats.
